The papers were signed and the country that now shelters over 20 crore people, Pakistan, was due to be mapped. 5th most beautiful country flag, an enthralling National anthem with tunes that match-beats to every ear, and a joy of all four seasons, Pakistan is a country I am very fond of, however (this however aches my heart and pride) severe the conditions are nowadays. But let's not talk about the bad stuff though because the world is filled with lots of those, rather about something more peaceful, achieving, loud, and colorful: the Pakistan day, celebrated annually on 23rd of March with all its might and enthusiasm, a day where my country sync seamlessly with its people. Though a week due, the pronounced preparations are already heating up the atmosphere.
February 26, I was sitting on a bench with a book in my hand in Kachnar Jogging Park, I/8 Islamabad, a daily reading session of mine after the jogging and exercising, when I read loud military shouts, guard commands, coming from afar. Following up were the drums playing the music for "Is parcham k saye thaley (under this shadow of our Flag)" a Pakistani national song, and I thought today must be some National day that I am unaware of. 26 February didn't seem like a day we've been celebrating all these years, but the excitement coming from the guard commands and music, really made me false my information. Later in the day, I googled the day and nothing came up, and it left me quite confused. A couple of days later, a friend of mine goes, "it must be the preparations for the 23rd" and I was like, "that's a very early preparation!". But as it turns out, it was. Not only the commands and the drums, that replayed everyday I visited the park, but also louder, more expressive signs of the preparations: the jets flying around in the sky all over the capital city.
Today in particular, the jets were more louder than before and more lower on an altitude than before, maybe letting us know that it's just a week away folks! As I rode my bike to the mechanic for some repair purposes, I couldn't help but notice the loud, whooping noises of the jets flying above one after another, and then again. Loud and attentive, not only me, but everyone was feeling the preparations today. But it wasn't until I reached the mechanic and was standing while the repair works was going on that, I saw colors coming off the tails of the jet planes. Now I had seen such air-stunts before, but they were on TV, here it was real, real as in seeing-with-my-eyes real. A moment passed, and set of six fighter planes emerged on the sky, aligned, rising from a low altitude, and moved upwards, leaving behind colorful thick smokes. Reaching a certain height, they flew back down, but this time they curved to the sides, dispersing into different angels, and producing an awed reaction from us. Have you come across the quick wits of an ordinary man, sitting somewhere around you, who says something so exact to the situation that you can't stop yourself from appreciation? While the jet plans came down and performed that colorful air-stunt and left behind that structured smoke, the man behind me exclaimed, "othy dekh, Meenar-e-Pakistan banaya jee." (sorry for my poor Punjabi), "look that way, they smoke-made the Meenar-e-Pakistan", and that was exactly what the image looked like.
The big day is just around the corner, and however louder this may get day by day, it will just be a glimpse of the performances on the 23rd. The day sounds promising as the enthusiastic preparations work as a catalyst along with our excitement, leading up to Pakistan Day. Pakistan Zindabad! Pak Army Paindabad! Shout out to The Green Army xx
