Welcome to this week’s 5BF: Windows x features on your laptop,
the secret of genius, understanding the mind of God, and more…
1: What I Read
A brief history of Time by Stephen Hawking - Hawking’s
awe-inspiring book is at once an easily understandable guide to the fundamentals
of universal Physics in which one understands how physics has evolved and what
it’s after, as well as a subliminal exercise of investigating one’s existence
in the broad scheme of existing multiverse. An essential read!
2: This Week’s Articles
How to be a genius @aeon – an excellent article by a
professor of genius which neatly explores what a genius really is and what it
takes to become one. Whether you are a genius yourself or are living in the
vicinity of one, this article would expand on your responsibilities as both.
How to be angry @aeon – the reason I prefer articles from
Aeon.com than Theschooloflife.com is because of its diverse set of authors. While ‘The school of life’ also has articles/videos on the subject on anger, this article with its articulateness and insights about 'anger' makes de Botton’s views on the subject matter look almost obsolete.
A breakthrough in utilizing the energy of anger for something good than letting
us destroy us.
Prioritizing the present doesn’t mean you lack willpower @psyche.com
– this contradictory article shifts the perspective on decision-making from the
foresightedness to prioritizing the our present instincts. Although it fails to
present a fully persuasive argument, it nevertheless succeeds in tinkling our
hard-wired thoughts – and the flexibility it aims to achieve can help us make
better decisions and life fuller lives.
3: Movie Recommendations
Promising Young Woman – a sweet revenge movie that is at the
same time an important insight into the intricateness of rape cases. A drop-out
medical student tries to take the revenge of his close friend, Nina’s, rape
that took place in high school. A thrilling movie with brilliant lead acting
which is a discussion-starter on the important topic of rape and consensus.
Let Him Go – a western/country movie about a aged couple who
after marrying their son’s widow to a violent man from a bad-reputated family,
tries to safe their grandson and bring him and his mother back to their home. A
movie about courage, remorse, and the love of family.
4: Windows X features on any laptop
Windows X is Microsoft’s new software in its competition against
Chrome OS. It promises to be a lighter and more efficient OS than Windows 10
from midrange Chromebooks. However, you can get some of its UI and user-focused
feature on you laptop as well that is running the latest version of Windows 10. This is Beebom’s video on how to get these features. Enjoy!
5: This Week’s Quote
“For creativity to occur, it takes two to tango: an original
thinker and a receptive society”.
Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi
