Welcome to this week’s 5BF: an intense, creepy, and sadly
short-falling war novella, top 10 songs of 2021 so far, a movie about breaking
the barriers but in a kind way, resolutions revisted, and more…
1 – what I read
At Night All Blood is Black by David Diop – the winner of
the International Booker Prize for 2021, Diop’s novella is stark, creepy, dark,
inquisitive, fun, and promising but falls short because its brevity. Had this
novella been a novel, this would’ve landed more firmly than it did for me.
2 – what I watched
Luca (2021) – another brilliant animated movie from Pixar,
which from its trailer looked like a movie for little kids, but in viewing is
much more mature, fun, relevant, and exciting. It is not the ‘Good Dinosaur’
type of movie if you’re thinking that – but much deeper and appealing to all
audiences. The story I dare say match the brilliance of Pixar’s animation. A movie
about jumping out of the well and breaking the barriers, but for the right
reasons and with the right ways.
A video compilation of my top ten favorite songs so far from this
year. Enjoy!
4 – mid-year visit of my new year’s resolutions

5 – this week’s quote
‘Hope whispers from the threshold of the year to come,
whispering… ‘it will be happier’.’
